The second day of the 4th edition of the Gas & Technology Showcase and Conference “GOTECH 2023”, Dragon Oil,the oil exploration & production platform entirely owned by Dubai Government, witnessed several debate sessions on the innovation in the oil and gas industry.

“GOTECH 2023” provided about 60 students of universities in the UAE and MENA region with an access to participate in its activities, and holds workshops for them throughout the Conference. It also arranges field visits for many UAE companies that are specialized in the oil and gas sector, and launches special competitions for submitting ideas and suggestions regarding the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP 28”, which will be hosted by the UAE at the end of the current year, to contribute to the success of this event.

Many local and global universities participate in the concomitant Showcase of “GOTECH 2023”. The most prominent among these universities are the UAE University, Khalifa University, the American University in Dubai (AUD), the American University in Sharjah (AUS), the University of Kansas. These universities participate in the Showcase to introduce their programs in the petroleum engineering, and highlight the training opportunities that are available in their laboratories and in the oil and gas companies, and also the job opportunities that these universities offer its excellent students, in co-operation and coordination with the local and global oil and gas companies.

Mr. Fareed Al Hashemi, the Chief Operating Officer in Dragon Oil, and the Head of “GOTECH 2023” stated that the debates which were held during the first and second day of “GOTECH 2023” addressed a lot of significant topics in the oil and gas sector, and sought to identify the latest artificial intelligence “AI” technologies, which are harnessed in the different stages of oil and gas industry and contribute to the advancement of the same and curbing of emissions.

“The ways of carbon disposal to achieve the goals of carbon neutrality were also discussed, as well as the “green hydrogen”, which is deemed a promising source of energy and an environmentally friendly one, and it is produced mainly by electrolysis of water from renewable energy, and represents one of the pillars of a sustainable future that depends on accelerating the transition towards carbon neutrality and green economy”, Al Hashemi added.

Dragon Oil platform also witnessed several workshops that their discussions mainly focused upon the issues of innovations, balance sheet, the tax, and introducing the latest work methods, which are adopted by the platform to the companies that want to register thereupon. The workshops also underscored the significance of innovation and its role in finding solutions for the challenges confronted by the oil and gas industry.

Afaf Sharaf, the Head of Financial Performance upon Dragon Oil and the Director of “GOTECH 2023” said that the platform during “GOTECH 2023”
delivered lectures on finding solutions for the problems emanated from the gush of oil and gas, e.g. the disposal of accumulated sands and greases inside the oil pipelines, and harnessing sensors and AI solutions to anticipate the problems and finding solutions for the same preemptively.

She highlighted a robot, which is used in oil facilities, particularly in sensitive zones, as it is programmed to carry out monitoring operations, detect any gas leakage and report it wirelessly. Moreover, this robot is also used in the security monitoring of prohibited facilities, and to report any unauthorized access to these areas.
